There is a place here for a few hours of your month

Volunteers deliver the majority of our programme hours. You do not need qualifications for most roles — you need to turn up when you say you will, and to treat every resident who walks through the door with respect.

Volunteer roles & schedules

Tutor / Homework Helper

Tue & Thu 4:30–6:30pm, or Sat 9:00am–12:00pm

Comfortable with lower-secondary mathematics or English. BGCSE-level competence is sufficient; teaching experience is welcome but not required. Minimum commitment: one session per week for one school term.

Clinic Support Volunteer

One Saturday per month, 7:30am–1:00pm

No medical background needed for registration, queue management and refreshments. Registered nurses and medical students may apply to the clinical team with a copy of current licence or enrolment.

Shoreline & Planting Crew

First Saturday of the month, 7:00–11:00am

Ages 14 and over (under 18 accompanied by a guardian). Able to stand in shallow water and carry light loads. Boots, gloves and water are provided; bring a hat.

Office & Administration

Weekdays, flexible 3-hour blocks

Filing, data entry, thank-you letters and event calls. Particularly useful for retirees and students on holiday. Basic computer literacy required.

Interpreter (Haitian Creole / Spanish)

On call, plus clinic Saturdays

Conversational fluency in English and Haitian Creole or Spanish. Interpreters sign a confidentiality undertaking and receive a short briefing on intake terminology.

Skilled Trades & Professional Services

By arrangement

Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, accountants and attorneys who can donate occasional hours to the centre or to programme families. Valid licence or professional registration required.

Joining us

How to sign up

1. Call or email the office. Telephone +1 242 322 2393 during office hours or write to madamedo466@gmail.com telling us which role interests you.
2. Attend a Wednesday orientation. Held the first Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm at the Dolphin Drive centre. It lasts about ninety minutes and covers our code of conduct, confidentiality and safeguarding rules.
3. Provide the paperwork. One form of government-issued identification, two character references, and — for anyone working directly with children — a police certificate, which we will help you request.
4. Shadow a session. New volunteers work alongside an experienced volunteer for their first two sessions before taking a group or a station of their own.

Gifts in kind

We accept and are always short of the following. Items may be dropped at the Dolphin Drive office weekdays between 9:00am and 4:30pm.

New or gently used school uniforms and black school shoes
Exercise books, pens, calculators and backpacks
Non-perishable food for the August and December family hampers
Bottled water, gloves and refuse sacks for clean-up mornings
Working laptops or tablets for the homework room
Print and copy services, minibus transport, and venue space

For corporate partnerships, staff volunteering days or sponsorship of a specific clinic or planting morning, please ask for the Executive Director when you call.

Our commitment to volunteers

Volunteers are covered by the Foundation's public liability policy while carrying out approved activities, are never asked to bear programme costs personally, and may withdraw from any assignment at any time. We keep volunteer records confidential and use contact details only to schedule and acknowledge service. Every volunteer receives a written record of hours served on request, which schools and employers in Nassau accept as proof of community service.
